Even Bike & Hike Guides Love to Explore

The Cederberg, a true wilderness area in the Western Cape, is famous for its unique rock formations, dramatic scenery, and ancient San rock art. It’s a popular escape for those craving fresh air and spectacular night skies. Bike & Hike recently hosted avid cyclist and journalist, David Moseley, on the launch of our new multi-day adventure in this leopard country. His words and experience below perfectly capture the essence of our tour.

A Refined and Relaxed Multi-Day Tour

Bike & Hike specializes in stress-free, multi-day tours that apply our winning recipe of 5-star “safari lodge” service. We cater to every need, creating magical packages that are perfect for avid cyclists and weekend riders alike, appealing to both international visitors and local adventurers.

Here’s a summary of the tour, as told by David Moseley:

Day 1: Citrusdal to CapeNature Algeria

The tour began with a leisurely 70km ride from Citrusdal, ending at the beautifully refurbished CapeNature Algeria resort. The route was an “amiable amble,” with a pleasant stretch alongside the Olifants River and a manageable climb towards the end. A highlight was discovering new singletrack trails at the resort, which we couldn’t resist sampling after our ride.

Day 2: CapeNature Algeria to Mount Ceder

Despite a storm, our spirits weren’t dampened as we embarked on a 60km ride to Mount Ceder. The day started with a tough but rewarding 7km climb up Uitkyk Pass. We were treated to some true country hospitality at Cederberg Park, where we enjoyed a local NieuwBrew beer. The final stretch led us past large olive groves, culminating at the tranquil Mount Ceder on the Grootrivier.

Day 3: Secret Cederberg

Day three was a welcome rest day. We explored the area by taking on a new singletrack trail and a riverside stroll. The highlight was a “Secret Cederberg” rock art tour, where we discovered incredible examples of ancient San art, some dating back 7,000 years. It’s an experience that truly must be seen to be believed.

Day 4: Mount Ceder to Op-die-Berg

Our final day of riding took us on a scenic 50km journey from Mount Ceder to Op-die-Berg. The weather was perfect for tackling the “Mount Ceder Never Ender” climb, which, while long, rewards you with a breathtaking view at the summit. The rest of the ride was a gentle downhill past stunning apple and pear farms. We finished the tour at the Wonderlik Koffiewinkel, where a decadent caramel chocolate cheesecake was the perfect reward for our efforts.
