1.2 Rhine Bike Trail

The Rhine Bike Trail is the most popular cycling route in Swirzerland. It begins 1450 meters above sea level, in an alpine landscape near Sedrun, where the Rhine has its source. Through picturesque villages you follow the still relatively young Rhine. Here Romanche is the native language. After Hanz the Rhine winds through the Swiss Grand Canyon which was formed thousands of years ago hy a huge landslide... Soon, the plain of Chur and the first villages with vineyards appear. In the spas of Bad Ragaz you can take a refreshing bath before you pedal on to the tiny principality of Liechtenstein and further on along the Rhinedam to the Lake of Constance. The bike path then follows the shore of the lake and leads you through such well-known places as Bregenz (in Austria) and the Lindau Peninsula (in Germany). By ferry you will cross the lake back to Swiss shores. The bike tour ends in Schaffhausen with the famous Rhinefalls as a last attraction.

1.3 Rhone Bike Trail

The new Rhone Bike Trail could easily be named the Wine Bike Trail because this bike tour leads through the best vineyards of Switzerland. It starts in Oberwald / Goms 1500 metres above sea level in an alpine landscape. Here you will find small villages whose weather-beaten chalets have become dark-brown from years of wind and sun. Soon after passing Brig vineyards appear and along the tour you will hear and see famous names like Fendant, Johannisberg, Aigle, Epesses and Lavaux. The Rhone Bike Trail does not only follow the river valley; you can also take attractive diversions by mountain railway up to Bettmeralp (optional), or up to Crans Montana for an overnight stay, or up to Mont Pélérin with amazing views over Lake Geneva and into the Savoy Highalps. You will be inspired by the special way of life in the French part of Switzerland in famous places like Sion, Montreux, Lausanne and Morges. The Rhone Bike Trail ends in the international metropolis Geneva, where the Rhone leaves Switzerland.

1.4 Aare Bike Trail

The Aare Bike Trail is Switzerland's first, fully signposted long-distance cycle route. It is a magnificent tourist attraction that already enjoys an international reputation. The Aare bike trail gives you an excellent idea of the variety of different landscapes that characterize Switzerland. The starting point in Meiringen lies in the midst of the highest of the Bernese Alps - but don't panic! The action of the river over millions of years has flattened the path and you can follow it quite easily as it flows 250 km down to Brugg. The attractions along the way include the lakes formed by the Aare - Lake Brienz, Lake Thun, Lake Wohien, Lake Bienne - and a variety of cities and villages, some with world-famous names, and some with names you will never have heard of before. And as the bike trail winds its way pleasantly along lanes through woods and meadows, along fertile fields and through isolated villages where the charm of the provinces lives on unchanged, you will also have ample opportunity to see a true picture of everyday Switzerland.
