1.1 Islands of the Kvarn Bay - Island hopping at the Adriatic Sea by bike and by ship

A thousand islands in crystal clear water, craggy rocks, dreamlike beaches and innumerable small bays - that is the Kvarn Bay in the Northern Adriatic Sea. Every island is different; every one has its own history. For one week you explore, either individually or guided by someone with knowledge of the subject, the country and its people of these unique islands. On board a romantic motor/sailing boat, your swimming hotel, you will experience the charm of the Adriatic Sea particularly. You start biking in the morning after a substantial breakfast. For lunch you either stop at an inn or meet the ship in a harbour. In the evening the ship awaits you in the next harbour and you can enjoy the excellent cooking while watching the sunset. Then you can go for a stroll through the historic harbour town and go to sleep in the cabin afterwards - or on deck below thousands of stars…

ITINERARY

1st Day: Omisalj - Cres (approx. 15 or 25 km)
Individual arrival in Omisalj, a peaceful small seaport on the island of Krk. Use the time before embarkation for a first swim in the Adriatic Sea or enjoy an ice-cream in the parlor in the harbor. The cabins on the motor yacht will be ready for you at 11 a.m. At approx. 1 p.m. the ship will take off and take you to Cres in about four hours. You have the choice between a longer journey to the village of Predoscica, which is located in an altitude of 350 m. Or you can go on a smaller guided tour of the surroundings of the vast harbor bay. In the evening a short city tour with your tourist guide.

2nd Day: Islands of Cres and Lošinj (approx. 55 km)
You will cycle on the east side of the island among pine, fig and laurel trees. On your way, you will pass Vrana Lake, the geologically remarkable freshwater reservoir of the island. You will have lunch on the ship in the artist town of Osor. Afterwards there will be time for a swim in the bay with crystal clear water. In the afternoon you will leave Osor, crossing over a swing bridge to reach the island of Lošinj. You will cycle along the panorama-route to Mali Lošinj, an old seafaring and health resort. The ship will be waiting for you in the large harbor with its numerous cafés and colorful houses.

3rd Day: Islands of Losinj and Molat (approx. 40 km)
You cycle along the wide shore promenade meandering along picturesque bays to the south of Losinj, where you will meet the ship for lunch. In the afternoon we cross over to the island of Molat, the island of flowers, where you will do one more short cycling tour before we turn in for the night.

4th Day: Island of Dugi Otok (approx. 45 km)
In the morning, the ship will take take you to the "spice island" Dugi Otok. Your bike-tour begins in the bay of Božava, which is surrounded by pine woods, agaves and tamarisk trees; the road is nearly traffic-free. You will meet the ship in Savar for lunch. On the way to the fishing town of Sali you will be impressed by terrific views of the sea and the surrounding islands. The ship will take you from there to the island of Ugljan, where you will spend the night.

5th Day: Island of Pag (approx. 35 km)
After a cruise you will reach the island of Pag until lunchtime. In the harsh but delightful landscape of the island you will come across many fig and olive trees. Over the centuries the inhabitants have built numerous stonewalls for protection against the wind. You will bike on the narrow peninsula until you reach the sea, where the ship will be waiting to take you to Rab. The island of Rab is one of the sunniest places in Europe. The town of Rab, the fortified capital of the island, was built in the middle ages on a wedge-shaped headland, and marks one of the highlights of the trip. The four famous bell towers are the symbol of the townscape of the richly adorned beauty. After dinner you can explore the narrow alleys with numerous cosy cafés.

6th Day: The island of Rab (approx. 45 km)
You will bike along the coast to the east side of the island, an area with virtually no vegetation, whose rough and cliffy rocks remind of a lunar landscape. The road will lead you on to a bay with a sandy beach, which is rather atypical for the Kvarner islands. At lunchtime the ship will be waiting for you in the harbour directly in front of the old town of Rab. Afterwards you will be cycling on the green peninsula to the north of the island. In Lopar you will meet your ship again. After a swim-break, the ship will take you over to the neighboring island of Krk, where you will spend the evening in the historical town of Krk.

7th Day: The island of Krk (approx. 50 km)
You will cycle over the ridge of the island which is covered by fragrant macchia to a valley of vineyards, and then onwards to the small museum town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50-metre-high cliff and surrounded by vineyards, is the home of the famous white wine, Žlahtina. Another peculiarity that Vrbnik has to offer is the narrowest alley in the world. The way will lead you on across the island through old villages and rich vegetation to Omišalj, from where Rijeka will be within your sight. On the way, you will have a chance to swim in the bay of Soline. You will spend the night in Omišalj.

8th Day: Omisalj (Departure)
Unloading after breakfast until 9 a.m.
