1 Along the Danube from Passau to Viena

The 303 km cycle way along the banks of the River Danube was originally a tow path for barges and was converted into a cycle path in 1984. The cycle path is free of cars and runs smooth and straight along the Danube. The route takes in such cultural sites as the monasteries and baroque towns at Engelhartszell, Wilhering and Melk. This route in the romantic wine growing region of the Wachau, with its breathtaking scenery and charming towns like Spitz, Dürnstein and Krems, is unforgettable. Cycle at your own pace along the level banks of Austria's most famous and beloved river, the Danube.

1.1 Cycle and stay on board a boat: Danube Impressions

During the day you bike along the embankment down the Danube cycle path. In the afternoon you board your ship and on most days continue to the next harbour. Enjoy the evenings on board with live music or explore the harbour towns. If you don't feel biking one day, just stay on board and let the countryside pass by.
